John Capasso

John A. Capasso, President and Chief Executive Officer

John Capasso has been employed by Catholic Health East since 2001 and has more than 25 years of experience in health care and senior living services. He is currently serving in the role of president and CEO of the Continuing Care Management Services Network (CCMSN). Prior to this role, Capasso served as the president and CEO of St. Joseph of the Pines Health System, a continuing care ministry providing a variety of housing and health care services to seniors in central North Carolina. Prior to joining St. Joseph of the Pines, Capasso served in a variety of executive roles at Asbury Services, Gaithersburg, Md., a provider of senior living services across multiple states. Before joining Asbury, Capasso was assistant vice president of clinical services at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Md.

Capasso has a master of science degree in health services administration from George Washington University; a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa.; and is a certified healthcare executive with the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is also a licensed nursing home administrator.

Patricia Gathers
VP, Finance

Patricia Gathers, Vice President, Finance

Patricia Gathers currently leads the financial services function for two of CHESSM’s skilled nursing management contracts. In this role, Gathers has implemented numerous tactics to facilitate revenue growth, improve productivity and expense management. Since joining CHE in 2001, she has led Catholic Health East’s continuing care financial services function which provides strategic financial planning, board education, operational reviews, benchmarking services, information technology implementations and accounts receivable management to CHE’s numerous continuing care organizations. Gathers has served as a team leader for two important strategic system-wide initiatives which have resulted in significant organizational tactics highlighted in the CHE 10-year strategic plan.

Gather’s 20 years of experience has focused primarily on the health care industry were she has served in various consultant and management roles. In 2007, Gathers completed a Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean certification program sponsored by Villanova University to support her work in performance management and process reengineering.

Prior to joining CHE, Gathers served as the corporate controller for ACTS Retirement Life, one of the nation’s largest providers of continuing care services. Her prior experience also includes service at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Crozer Chester Medical Center and Arthur Andersen and Company. Gathers has received certifications in both public accounting and management accounting. She serves on the board of a local not-for-profit skilled nursing facility and is an associate with the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.

Kathleen Glendening
Director, Clinical Services
Kathleen Glendening, Director, Clinical Services

Kathleen Glendening joined Catholic Health East Senior Services Management (CHESSM) in June 2009 as the corporate director of clinical services. She has extensive experience in the management of all phases of senior services.

Most recently, Glendening served as regional health care manager for PHI Retirement and Senior Care Services in Camp Hill, Pa., where she implemented corporate-wide educational programs, as well as new educational processes and procedures, achieving positive survey outcomes. Just prior, Glendening served as corporate resident assessment program manager for Five Star Quality Care in Newton, Mass., where she developed a system-wide assisted living assessment program involving 11 regions and 165 communities with an emphasis on quality of care and revenue enhancement. She also previously served as corporate director for health services at The Kendal Corporation in Kennett Square, Pa., where she led communities throughout five states in achieving strategic company-wide goals, and participated in the design development of two new continuous care retirement communities.

Glendening received a master of public health (M.P.H.) from West Chester University and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Central Connecticut State University. She is a member of the Delaware and Pennsylvania Health Care Associations as well as the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators (AANAC) and Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC). Glendening is a licensed registered nurse in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, a licensed nursing home administrator in Delaware and a Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) surveyor.

William Healy
VP, Regional Operations
William J. Healy, Vice President, Regional Operations

William J. Healy joined Catholic Health East Senior Services Management (CHESSM) in September 2009. He brings with him more than 25 years of administrative experience in the senior housing and long-term care industries.

Most recently, Healy served as chief operating officer of Trinity Senior Living Communities in Novi, Mich. Previously, he was partner and senior vice president of Hamlyn, a consulting firm in Cherry Hill, N.J., which specializes in marketing, research and management for the senior living field. He also served for several years as president and chief executive officer of United Methodist Retirement Communities—a four-campus senior care system in Chelsea, Mich.

Healy received a master of arts in health services administration from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He also has a bachelor of science in education from Mount St. Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, Md.

Healy has served as chair of the Michigan Continuing Care Alliance and the Nominations Committee for the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging in Washington, DC. He is a former member of the board of directors for the Michigan Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.

Kelly Hopkins
VP, Finance and Growth

Joseph K. (Kelly) Hopkins, Vice President, Finance and Growth

Kelly Hopkins has more than 20 years experience working in continuing care retirement communities, long-term care, home health and hospice services. Prior to joining CHE, Hopkins was employed with St. Joseph of the Pines for nine years, the last seven as chief financial officer. He was responsible for the financial oversight of two continuing care retirement communities, home care operations and five low-income housing projects. During his last year, he also served as chief financial officer of Mercy Medical in Daphne, Ala.

Prior to joining St. Joseph of the Pines, Hopkins was the director of finance for MedVisit, the largest for-profit home health and hospice provider in North Carolina. His experience also includes health care consulting with both home health and hospice providers. Hopkins has worked with a number of skilled nursing facilities having started his career with Beverly Enterprises in South Carolina. 

Hopkins holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C.

Kathleen Miller
VP, Marketing and Sales

Kathleen (Kay) J. Miller, Vice President, Marketing and Sales

Kathleen (Kay) J. Miller joined Catholic Health East’s Continuing Care Management Services Network (CCMSN) as vice president, marketing and sales, in August 2009. Miller has twenty years of experience in marketing with nearly ten years in the continuing care field.

Miller&rsquos most recent position was as the vice president of marketing for Life Care Retirement Communities in Des Moines, Iowa – the nation’s seventh largest non-profit provider of senior living communities. While there, she spearheaded a branding campaign and helped to conduct a comprehensive assessment and restructuring of the marketing, sales and communications efforts of the organization. Prior to that, Miller was the vice president of marketing and communications for Presbyterian Villages of Michigan, in Southfield, Mich., where she was responsible for the marketing and public relations efforts of 19 senior living facilities.

Miller served on the Advisory Council for the Area Agency on Aging in Michigan and has served on multiple committees associated with the Governor’s Medicaid Long Term Task Force. Miller also participated in an exchange program hosted by the United States-Japan Training Institute in Care for the Elderly and presented on Green Houses in Kyoto, Japan.

Miller holds a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree, with an emphasis in gerontology, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she was a member of the Hartford Geriatric Social Work Fellowship program. She has a bachelor of arts from Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich., and has completed various executive courses at Michigan State University’s Graduate School of Business Administration.

Tony West
Director, Information Technology

Tony West, Director, Information Technology

Tony West currently serves as director, information technology for the Continuing Care Management Services Network (CCMSN). In this role, West has been responsible for providing project leadership in large multi-system software implementations across CHE’s continuing care and PACE settings as well as providing strategic and operational leadership to three continuing care Regional Health Corporations. Previously, he served as the director of information technology for St. Joseph of the Pines. During his more than 12 years with St. Joseph of the Pines, West was instrumental in the success of major enterprise application implementations as well as providing project leadership in other operational endeavors in home health and in the continuing care setting.

West holds an associate’s degree in applied science in business administration as well an associate’s degree in applied science in accounting from Sandhills Community College.
