Catholic Health System

Located in Buffalo, NY, the Catholic Health System (CHS) provides health care across a network of four hospitals, eleven primary care centers, nine diagnostic and treatment centers, a free standing surgery center, thirteen long term care facilities, adult homes, home care agencies, counseling services, social service and behavioral health programs.

The Catholic Health System's 8,000 employees and 1,200 physicians are part of a healing ministry well known for personal and compassionate care, and known for excellence in such areas as women's services, cancer services, cardiology, and rehabilitative services. The Catholic Health System is one of the largest provider of cardiology services, and the leading provider of maternity services and care to the elderly in Western New York.

In 2002 the Catholic Health System will offer advanced cardiac interventional services including open heart surgery with the opening of The Heart Center at Mercy Hospital.

Catholic Health System is a part of Catholic Health East through a joint operating agreement. Its sponsoring congregations include Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Buffalo; Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamburg, NY; Diocese of Buffalo, and Ascension Health.


Mercy Health System of Maine
Portland, ME

Mercy Health System of Maine is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Regional Community of Portland. It includes Mercy Hospital, a 177 bed acute care facility operating on two campuses with a network of primary care practices; VNA Home Health Care; Gary’s House, a home for families visiting hospitalized patients in the Portland area; and McAuley Residence, a home for women in transition. Mercy is supported by 1,400 employees, a medical staff of 560 primary care and specialty physicians, and 425 volunteers who donated 53,600 hours in 2003. In keeping with its mission and values, Mercy provided $9 million in charity care during 2003, which included many community services.

Mercy Hospital is a non-profit community hospital providing a broad range of inpatient medical, surgical, and obstetrical services. Mercy is a leader in Maine in orthopaedic surgery, joint replacement surgery, and interventional procedures. Mercy also offers treatment for eating disorders and drug/alcohol addiction through its Recovery Center, the largest substance abuse treatment center in Maine. Mercy offers the only comprehensive inpatient and day treatment program for eating disorders within the state.

Albany, NY

Founded by the Religious Sisters of Mercy in 1869, St. Peter's Health Care Services in Albany, NY, provides a comprehensive, integrated continuum of highest quality care to New York's Capital Region. Its major components include: St. Peter's Hospital (a 442-bed acute care facility); two skilled nursing facilities (Our Lady of Mercy Life Center and Villa Mary Immaculate); comprehensive chemical dependence treatment (St. Peter's Addiction Recovery Center); and The Community Hospice. The organization provides some two dozen specialized inpatient, outpatient, residential and laboratory services at a variety of sites throughout the region. St. Peter's also sponsors Mercy Cares for Kids, a nationally accredited day care program. St. Peter's Auxiliary provides extensive volunteer services that amplify the organization's resources; St. Peter's Hospital Foundation helps to secure additional resources to advance St. Peter's mission. In recent years, an independent national evaluation agency has designated St. Peter's a Top 100 Hospital, Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital and Top 100 Stroke Hospital.


Sisters of Providence Health System
Holyoke, MA

The Sisters of Providence came to Western Massachusetts 130 years ago with a mission to respond to growing needs of the community. We proudly continue that mission today. Sisters of Providence Health System is the only Catholic health system in Massachusetts west of Boston. Our system includes Mercy Medical Center, Weldon Rehabilitation Hospital, Providence Behavioral Health Hospital, Brightside for Families and Children, Life Laboratories, Mercy Home Care, Beaven Kelly Home, Farren Care Center, Mercy Adult Day Health of Westfield, Mercy Care Center of Springfield, Mount Saint Vincent Nursing Home, Providence Care Center of Lenox, and Saint Luke's Home. St. James Mercy Health System
Hornell, NY

Sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Regional Community of Rochester, St. James Mercy Health System is made up of St. James Mercy Hospital, long term care facility McAuley Manor at Mercycare, Child/Infant Daycare at DeSales Hall and several primary care clinics. The system offers a diverse range of services and programs, with 225 beds which includes 120 beds at McAuley Manor, to the greater Hornell area and beyond.

St. James Mercy Hospital provides medical and surgical inpatient services, as well as ICU/CCU, pediatrics, obstetrics, emergency room and diagnostic services. St. James Mercy opened a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in 2001. Other services include adult and adolescent psychiatric care units and a substance abuse treatment center (MATCH). McAuley Manor also offers dialysis and ventilator capabilities.

Maxis Health System
Carbondale, PA

Located in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, Maxis Health System and its affiliated organizations are sponsored by the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Maxis Health System officially joined CHE on July 1, 2004.

Maxis Health System and the entities which make up the system provide an integrated network of healthcare and human services in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The system works with other community leaders to identify and address unmet needs in the area, with an ultimate goal of fostering a higher quality of life for all residents.

Maxis Health System encompasses six organizations in Northeastern Pennsylvania: Marian Community Hospital, Tri-County Human Services, Inc.; Maxis Medical Services, Inc.; Maxis Foundation (including the Marian Community Hospital Auxiliary); Complete Pharmacy; Carbondale Area Physician Hospital Organization (CAPHO). The system includes a hospital, development foundation, a community mental health and mental retardation center, a for-profit retail pharmacy and physician services.


Mercy Community Health, Inc.
West Hartford, CT

Located in West Hartford, CT, and sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of Connecticut, Mercy Community Health is made up of Mercyknoll, a freestanding nursing facility, Saint Mary Home, a nursing center and adult day care facility, The McAuley, a continuing care retirement community, and Frances Warde Apartments, residential facilities. The recently completed Callaghan Center, part of Saint Mary Home, provides rehabilitation, subacute and special needs services. It also has a dedicated Alzheimer's unit, as well as a safe, exterior courtyard for residents.


Mercy Uihlein Health Corporation
Lake Placid, NY

Mercy Uihlein Health Corporation is made up of Mercy Healthcare Center, in Tupper Lake, NY, and Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, NY. Both are freestanding skilled nursing facilities. They offer skilled nursing care, rehabilitation services, adult day health care and respite care.
