Morton Plant Mease Health Care
BayCare Health System
Clearwater, FL

BayCare Health System was established in 1997 when the Tampa Bay area's leading not-for-profit health care organizations came together through a joint operating agreement. The system now includes nine hospitals, plus additional outpatient and ancillary services, organized into three Community Health Alliances: Morton Plant Mease Health Care in Clearwater, St. Anthony's Health Care in St. Petersburg, and St. Joseph's-Baptist Health Care in Tampa. The original sponsors of St. Anthony's and St. Joseph's were the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany. This congregation is part of Catholic Health East, which now serves as one of three member organizations that comprise BayCare. The hospitals' commitment to providing high quality health care to the communities they serve have been recognized in a number of ways. In 2003, St. Joseph's Hospital was named by U.S. News & World Report as one of America's Best Hospitals for treatment of digestive disorders and orthopedics, and the president/CEO of St. Anthony's Health Care earned the PACE award for business leadership for support and commitment to mental health crisis services. Also, in 2003, Morton Plant Mease Health Care earned the coveted "Magnet Designation" from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
