CHE Vice President Appointed to Leadership Team

Newtown Square, Pa., March 9, 2012 – Catholic Health East (CHE) is pleased to announce the appointment of CHE Vice President for Legal Services and General Counsel Michael C. Hemsley, Esq., to executive vice president for legal services and general counsel, effective immediately. With this promotion, Hemsley joins the Catholic Health East senior management team.

“I rely heavily on Mike’s legal and business counsel and am happy to welcome him as a new member of our senior management team,” said CHE President and CEO Judith M. Persichilli, R.N., B.S.N., M.A. “He is a valuable advisor on legal matters relative to CHE’s shared governance authorities and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting CHE and its constituent corporations.”

Hemsley joined Catholic Health East in 1998, first as vice president for corporate compliance and legal services, responsible for management oversight of compliance programs of 18 subsidiary health care systems then as vice president for legal services and general counsel.

Prior to joining CHE, Hemsley spent more than 20 years in private practice, last as a partner and health law department chair at Wolf, Block, L.L.C.

Hemsley is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar Association. A certified health care compliance professional, Hemsley is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association where he served as a board member and officer. He is a lecturer, author, and was a principal drafter of Corporate Responsibility and Corporate Compliance: A Resource for Health Care Boards of Directors and its companion publications, An Integrated Approach to Corporate Compliance, and Corporate Responsibility and Health Care Quality: A Resource for Health Care Boards of Directors, each sponsored by the American Health Lawyers Association and the Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Hemsley received his law degree (J.D.) from Villanova University School of Law, a Master of Arts in legislative affairs from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Science in international relations from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pa. Hemsley is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania.
