Catholic Health East Appoints New Sponsors Council Members
Newtown Square, Pa. – Catholic Health East (CHE) has announced the appointment of Lorraine C. La Vigne, R.S.M., M.A., and Judith Elaine Salzman, F.S.S.J. to three-year terms on the CHE sponsors council, effective January 2010.
The CHE sponsors council, comprised of the presidents of the nine religious communities that sponsor the health system as well as the members of Hope Ministries, a public juridic person within CHE, is the highest governing body within Catholic Health East.
Sr. Lorraine was most recently the director of sponsorship, Sisters of Mercy, Northeast Community, Newington, Conn., where she implemented the sponsorship model for the Sisters of Mercy, Northeast Community. She was previously the vice president, Connecticut Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy, West Hartford, Conn., and has held numerous positions in administration, counseling and education.
She earned her M.A. in counseling, St. Joseph College, West Hartford, Conn., a second M.A. in education, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass., and her B.A. in elementary education, Diocesan Teachers College, Madison, Conn. She also holds a certificate of continuing education in family studies from the Kantor Family Institute, Cambridge, Mass. Sr. Lorraine is a member of several boards and has presented at many presentations and workshops. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist in the State of Connecticut, and was previously certified through the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. She belongs to several professional associations.
Sr. Judith Salzman is presently the general minister of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph, Hamburg, N.Y. and was previously the retirement director and general councilor of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph. She has also held many positions in health care and in education.
Sr. Judith earned her M.S. in pastoral ministry, Christ the King seminary, East Auroa, N.Y., and has a professional certificate in lifelong adult ministry, Johnson Institute for Lifelong Adult Ministry, St. Louis, Mo. She earned her B.S, Ed., D’Youville College, Buffalo, N.Y., and her A.A.S. in nursing from Immaculata College, Hamburg, N.Y. She is a member of many boards and is involved in her community.

Catholic Health East, a multi-institutional Catholic health system co-sponsored by nine religious congregations and Hope Ministries, is based in Newtown Square, Pa.
