NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA—The Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) recently announced the appointment of two Catholic Health East leaders, Robert V. Stanek and Regina Benjamin, MD, MBA to the CHA Board of Trustees. Stanek serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Health East, and Benjamin, also a Catholic Health East board member, is founder and CEO of Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic in Bayou La Batre, Alabama.

“We welcome Catholic Health East's CEO, Bob Stanek, and CHE board member, Dr. Regina Benjamin, to the CHA board,” said Sr. Carol Keehan, DC, CHA President and Chief Executive Officer. “Their years of leadership experience and commitment to the Catholic health ministry will contribute greatly to advancing the work of the association and its members, including our collective work in the areas of community benefit and expanding access to quality healthcare for everyone.”

The St. Louis-based Catholic Health Association, founded in 1915, supports the Catholic health ministry's pursuit of the strategic directions of mission, ethics and advocacy. As the nation's largest group of not-for-profit sponsors, systems and facilities, the ministry is committed to improving the health status of communities and creating quality and compassionate health care that works for everyone. CHA's board, consisting of 25 individuals, provides governance by working with members to set strategic directions in order to support and strengthen the Catholic health ministry in the United States.

Catholic healthcare systems and facilities are present in all 50 states, employing over 700,000 people in acute care, skilled nursing, and other services including hospice, home health, assisted living, and senior housing.

Catholic Health East is a multi-institutional Catholic health system, which is co-sponsored by 13 religious congregations and Hope Ministries, a Public Juridic Person within Catholic Health East. Based in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, the System provides the means to ensure the continuation of the Catholic identity and operational strength of the Sponsors' health ministries, which are located within 11 eastern states from Maine to Florida.

The System includes acute care hospitals, free-standing and hospital-based skilled nursing facilities, residential facilities, free-standing behavioral health and rehabilitation facilities, and numerous ambulatory and community based health services. Catholic Health East facilities employ approximately 43,000 full time employees as partners in ministry.
