For Immediate Release
December 22, 2005

Catholic Health East (CHE), one of the nation's leading Catholic healthcare systems, announced the recent appointment of Barbara Murphy-Warrington as CHE's Chief Human Resource Officer. In this position, Murphy-Warrington is responsible for the overall development and leadership of the human resources and organizational effectiveness function throughout Catholic Health East. This includes attracting, developing and retaining the values-oriented talent CHE needs to fulfill its mission, while creating and supporting organizational processes and practices that enable CHE to execute its mission strategies.

"Barbara is an outstanding addition to our leadership team," said Robert Stanek, President and Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Health East. "She has expertise and experience in many areas that are of vital importance to our health ministry. We look forward to her contributions and her vision for enhancing human resources throughout our health System, and for her stewardship of Catholic Health East's most important asset: our colleagues."

Murphy-Warrington was previously Senior Vice President of CARE USA's global Human Resource Division in Atlanta, GA. CARE USA is one of the world's largest private international humanitarian organizations, committed to helping families in poor communities improve their lives and achieve lasting victories over poverty. At CARE USA, she established and maintained an integrated human resources management framework delivered through a decentralized, world-wide network of human resources professionals for 12,000 employees in 45 countries. She also established the CARE Academy, a virtual learning institute that supports CARE's cutting-edge global learning and staff development strategies. She is credited with developing and implementing highly successful global diversity and gender equity strategies. Previously Barbara had spent twelve years with The Ford Foundation, initially as Resident Counsel and then as Deputy Director of Human Resources. As Resident Counsel she concentrated on domestic and international employment matters. Prior to that, she served as a Deputy Attorney General for the state of New Jersey.

She has her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas, a J.D. from Rutgers University, and a master's in tax law from New York University. She is a member of the board of Winning Workplaces, a national nonprofit committed to creating great workplaces.

Catholic Health East is a multi-institutional Catholic health system, which is co-sponsored by 15 religious congregations and Hope Ministries, a Public Juridic Person within Catholic Health East. Based in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, the System provides the means to ensure the continuation of the Catholic identity and operational strength of the Sponsors' health ministries, which are located within 11 eastern states from Maine to Florida.

The System includes acute care hospitals, free-standing and hospital-based skilled nursing facilities, residential facilities, free-standing behavioral health and rehabilitation facilities, and numerous ambulatory and community-based health services. Catholic Health East facilities employ approximately 43,000 full time employees as partners in ministry.
