Description of the Best Practice
MEDICALLY INVOLVED/MENTALLY ILL (MIMI) PROGRAM
Implementation
Farren Care Center is a specialized skilled nursing facility that responds to the needs of medically involved adults who have neurological impairments or psychiatric illness. Since 1990, the facility has welcomed residents with combinations of medical and organic psychiatric illness that are often too behaviorally challenged to be cared for by traditional nursing homes. With both a board-certified psychiatrist and a director of medical services, board certified in internal medicine, the strength of the program is in integrating psychiatric, psychological, behavioral, and nursing care. The overall objective is to enable medically and mentally challenged residents to thrive in the least restrictive environment possible. Spiritual and emotional needs are also addressed through Pastoral Care and Social Services.
