MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM

Implementation
Information Systems approached the continuum infrastructure with future direction forefront in its design. Utilizing open architecture, the entire continuum currently has 24/7 communication capability, can integrate entities without additional re-engineering costs, and can provide for several mediums of messaging. Using the existing platforms, each desktop has 24-hour T1 access to the Internet and Mercy Medical’s intranet, while all mobile users, including our home-based transcriptionists, have dial-up access through a T1 communications server. Mercy Medical is striving to build an extranet to enable physician accessibility utilizing any popular web browser and to expand our Internet to the local community. To accommodate the fast-paced changes taking place in the health care industry, software and hardware vendors were chosen in respect to their market position, their capability to respond to Mercy Medical’s needs, and certification for year 2000 compliance.
