Programs

  • Inpatient Psychiatric Services

    1. Children and Adolescent Inpatient Unit
This 24-bed service provides age-specific treatment for children and adolescents ages 5-18 on two distinct units. These programs offer comprehensive psychiatric assessment, stabilization and short-stay intensive treatment. Each unit's interdisciplinary team provides family, individual and group-focused treatment that incorporates psychiatric, psychosocial, medical, behavioral, nursing and educational evaluation and intervention.

    2. Adult Psychiatric Unit
Providence's Adult Psychiatric Unit provides the latest in treatment options for individuals with mental illness. Our 34-bed unit offers comprehensive psychiatric assessment, stabilization and short-stay intensive treatment. The unit's interdisciplinary team incorporates psychiatric, psychosocial, medical, behavioral, nursing, rehabilitative and educational evaluation and intervention. Group programming is focused on a range of skill-building and psycho-educational groups. For patients with dual diagnosis, we offer a substance abuse recovery program.

    3. Older Adult Psychiatric Treatment
As the population ages, there is an increase in the number of older individuals who suffer from psychiatric and behavioral disturbances. Our 16-bed unit for older adults focuses on the complex biophysical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of elders and their families. The unit is fully accessible for persons with disabilities. Interdisciplinary staff members provide specialized care for persons with Alzheimer's disease, other dementias, behavioral disturbances and mental illnesses including psychotic disturbance and mood disorder. We work closely with families and our patients' support system to ensure successful discharges and prevent rehospitalizations.

    4. Acute Residential Treatment
A short-term program providing hospitalization diversion and crisis stabilization for children between the ages of 6-18 who are experiencing acute psychiatric and/or substance abuse problems. Treatment is provided by a psychiatric team including counselors, clinicians, a special education teacher and a psychiatrist. Specialists are available as needed. This program is located in a freestanding residential building on the Providence Behavioral Health Hospital campus in Holyoke. Patients receive treatment in a safe, structured and nurturing atmosphere.

  • Substance Abuse Services

    1. Inpatient Substance Abuse Service
This 30-bed program for patients with addictive disorders provides inpatient detoxification from alcohol, opiates and other substances. The hospitalization phase is generally the first step toward an ongoing treatment program. Treatment is designed to help people withdraw and prepare for the next level of the recovery/rehabilitation process. Services include daily individual and group counseling, aftercare planning, services for pregnant women and methadone detoxification.

    2. Outpatient Substance Abuse Counseling
Providence Behavioral Health Hospital offers individual, family and group outpatient substance abuse counseling. Counseling is also provided for children of substance abusers, adolescents at risk of substance abuse and individuals who suffer from the substance abuse problems of a significant other or relative. Intensive outpatient treatment options are available.

    3. Outpatient Methadone Maintenance Treatment Programs
Methadone Clinics are located in Springfield and at Providence Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke. Providence's outpatient methadone maintenance and post-detoxification programs include daily dosing, mandatory individual and group counseling and random urine drug screenings.
