Behavioral Health at CHE
A wide array of behavioral health programs are offered by 11 of CHE's Regional Health Corporations or other affiliated systems located in six states: Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
These behavioral health programs encompass psychiatric, chemical dependency and child welfare services. Programs are provided in a variety of settings ranging from a freestanding behavioral health hospital and inpatient psychiatric and chemical dependency units serving all age groups to specialized outpatient and residential treatment programs.
In addition to hospital based inpatient units and programs, many of these services are located in outpatient or ambulatory settings to be accessible to the community they serve.
CHE providers offer, in addition to the "traditional" inpatient and outpatient behavioral health care, innovative services such as geropsychiatry, psychosocial rehabilitation, methadone and mood disorder treatments, multi-cultural counseling and co-occurring disorders to address the complex needs of patients who are mentally ill and chronically abusing drugs or alcohol.
These facilities often are the only providers of behavioral health services in their communities. Specialized programs exist to serve traditionally underserved persons including the homeless, patients with HIV, pregnant women, drug-addicted individuals, and persons with chronic mental illness. CHE providers accept Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial insurance plans; we participate with more than 80 managed care organizations.
All programs are accredited in behavioral health by national organizations, primarily the Joint Commission on Healthcare Accreditation. Catholic Health East serves nearly 18,000 patients in its inpatient behavioral health programs with close to 700 hospital beds dedicated to psychiatry and chemical dependency.
